Road Bike Treasure Map (updated 4/27/06)
OK it’s not quite a map... 2006 is the year to slow down and enjoy the rides. This is something I thought would be handy for anyone that likes to ride and maybe stop along the way to enjoy the day. At this point it’s all predicated on leaving from Chelan. But we can add anything?
It’s a work in progress, I don’t have all the possible loops. There are things like the McNeal, Mansfield, Brewster loop and others that I would love to have. As you do something you like please send me any info. At some point I’ll make up some actual maps for each ride? Or maybe the Kid will take that on? Anyway if you have things you would like to add edit, email them to chris@sungraphic.com I think I’ll keep an updated copy at www.bikelakechelan.com which is a old site we did a long time ago for the mountain bike crowd, but maybe we’ll start to add some things for road there also. Look under local Rides to get the latest and greatest.
Anyway I hope this is useful and you have your share of treats this year!
Using Link Transit All Link Buses have bike carriers now. This allows you to go one way to Entiat or Wenatchee and bus back if the weather turns of you have a problem, get tired etc.? Or if you like to run it makes a great way to do a one way and bus back? The Chelan Service is Route 21 See their site at www.linktransit.com They serve all of Chelan County. Probably not a bad idea to keep their phone number with you. 509-662-1155
Omak (55 Miles one Way) This ride would make a nice century out and back or combined with a one way up to Canada? Lots of great places in Oliver (Sister City) 118 mi., Osoyoos 105 mi, Penticton 148 mi

Brewster (26 Miles one Way) This makes a great out and back for 52 Miles or so depending on which route out of town you take. A nice route is to turn left at the Chelan Airport on Apple Acres Rd and follow that down to Hwy 97. It drops you on to 97 just before Aswell Dam. I don’t know of any coffee shops or bakeries, though I’m sure they are there? There is a fantastic Mexican Restaurant? If you get info, please email chris@sungraphic.com

This can be done in either direction out 97A and up Navarre Coulee or Out the Lakeshore Road to the State Park and then up and over Navarre Coulee. Mansfield (?? Miles one Way)
Sunflower Café – 509-683-1068
I don't know anyone that's been there but this is what I got from Elsner on 1/5/06: Called the Sunflower Cafe in Mansfield after hearing from 2 people at work that they do a good job on their home made pies. The owner's name is Chris and is usually open Monday through Saturday from 10am until 7pm. Until her parents return from vacation, she is not open on Mondays or Tuesdays either. Big menu includes breakfast things, steak, fish and chips, sandwiches, and shakes. If she knows about it ahead of time and there is a group coming, she is willing to open on the days that she is usually closed. (Maybe a large group ride someday??)
